Why do Christians have hope?

Why do Christians have hope?

We, Christians, have an abundance of hope. This is not the optimism or positive thinking of the world. Ours is based on Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. It’s based on a God of Hope, an eternal truth. It’s based on the Holy Bible. Thus bible based on scriptural hope is most secure and solid – nothing can shake it. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Matthew 24:35).

Hope based on Jesus Christ does not depend on the political system of the country we live in, nor the wealth or health of anyone or persecution in a country.

As mindset change takes time, read these again frequently over two months, think about what you read, and then you will be pleasantly surprised at the absence or decrease of worry and anxiety in you.

What is the hope from Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ died on the cross to cleanse the sins of all. Then he resurrected, conquering sin and death once and for all. The work of the cross is the finished work. Absolutely nothing further is required to complete it.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the son of God, that He died on the cross and resurrected becomes righteous, and receives eternal life through Jesus Christ.

We become a new creation, no longer a slave to sin, but instead, we become sons and daughters of God and co-inheritors along with Jesus Christ. Read this aloud at least thrice. This should sink

The wages of our sins is paid by the blood of the blemishless lamb, Jesus Christ. We are free from paying the wages of our sin, which is death. Instead we receive eternal life as Jesus Christ’s crucifixion paid the price of our sinful life by His shedding of blood and giving up His life as sacrifice instead of us.

This applies to everyone, irrespective of any kind of sin or sinful nature of the past. After believing in Jesus Christ and accepting Jesus Christ as lord and saviour of life, the person is literally clothed with Jesus Christ. God forgives the sin and sinful nature and does not see that trail anymore.  There is therefore no reason for us to carry the burden of sin.

Father God sees us righteous. We are righteous, because of our acceptance of Jesus Christ. The cross of Jesus washes away our sins and makes us a new creation. No more we carry any shame or burden or guilt of sin.

Although we deserved death, through Jesus we received eternal life and abundant life. This is the hope every believer in Jesus Christ has. A Christian becomes a righteous person through Christ. The past life of sin and sinful nature does not have any kind of authority over our lives after believing in Jesus Christ and accepting Him as the Lord over our lives.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3)

What if your situation and circumstances are hopeless?

Situations can appear to be hopeless. Doctors can say so.
Your debt situation can be very bad.
Maybe an accident happened.
Maybe your job was lost.
Maybe you did not get admission into a university. All these could be true.
But the truth is there are no hopeless situations and circumstances for a Christian who believes in God.

When the enemy in the form of the Egyptian Pharao and soldiers were pursuing all Israelites fleeing from Egypt to the promised land, only the Red Sea was ahead of them. Although the situation was hopeless, God made a way, the Israelites led by Moses could escape and cross on dry ground, while Pharaoh and his army were drowned and defeated once and for all. While Goliath challenged the whole army of Israel and it seemed to be a hopeless situation, a young lad David who was taking care of sheep, who was not well built and tall and impressive as the well built soldiers of the Israel army took the challenge on himself. Although physically appearancewise he seemed not impressive, his brief and faith level were very superior. Trusting in God, believing in God who was with him, he went forward with aggression and he could defeat and kill Goliath.

The lady with issues of blood for 12 years had not found any healing in spite of receiving treatment from many doctors. She had spent all the money, had  tried on many medications, had lost all hope and was desperate. She knew she had to get healing from Jesus. He had healed many miraculously and everyone was talking about it. But there was a crowd around Jesus. She knew Jesus was the only hope she had and somehow knew that only if she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed. And then the expectation and hope made a way for her freedom. Jesus knew power had left from his body and later it was found that the lady had drawn healing power from Jesus. In her desperate hopeless situation, a touch of Jesus became her healer.

What if you have crossed a certain age? Is there reason to be hopeless? Not at all. Age is just a number. The possibilities are endless at any age. Simeon and Anna were two who were daily in the temple. We know that Anna was 84, Simeon’s age is not mentioned. Yet both of them knew the promises of the scriptures. That they would see the Lord and saviour Jesus. They knew that for certain that they would see with their own eyes Lord Jesus. They knew the faithfulness of God. And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. (Luke 2:36-38) You can read that Anna fasted and prayed.  The presence of the Holy Spirit over Simeon is precious to read and know. Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. (Luke 2:25) Simeon went on to prophecy about the life of Jesus and about his mother Mary in Luke 2:34-35.

Father of faith Abraham was over 90 years old before he saw the promise of God manifest in his life, namely his own son Issac through his wife Sarah. Abraham had to wait earnestly for the fulfilment of the promise and in all these years we can see his faith built up and Abram became Abraham, the father of faith.

Are there verses regarding hope in the Holy Bible?

God’s word is the living word speaking and directing us  even to hope, protecting us and shielding us from worry and anxiety. Here is a word which says God’s word directs your path. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The word of God is a shield for us and protects us and shields us from our enemies and gives us protection and hope.   Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6)

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. (Psalm 119:114)

As mentioned earlier, our God is God of hope. Our God also fills us with hope and joy. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Those who wait on God shall never be weary of running nor do they faint with walking.
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Uniquely those who wait on God shall be like trees always watered even during summer and drought conditions and will yield fruit all year round.
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
(Jeremiah 17:7-8)

The eyes of worldly reasoning cannot see the hope that is in and through God, only eyes that are spiritually blessed can see the hope that is in God.
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. (Ephesians 1:18)

God loves those who have a loving fear of God, as they are always hopeful of God’s mercy.  Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy. (Psalm 33:18)

God’s love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. This love of God gives us hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our
