Joy and Delight is what we focus on. All from the book of Psalms. Other shades of these words are considered. We will examine: Why? What? How? perspectives!
Note 1) What should our delight be in?
Can this make you blessed?
We ought to delight in the Word of God and meditate on these day and night.
This nature along with another specific matter makes us blessed.
Blessed to such an extent that we would be fruitful in every season.
Fruitful like the trees planted by the rivers of water,
What is this another specific matter which goes along with being delighted in the law of the Lord?
Its being a man who chooses “
Not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly.
Nor stands in the way of sinners.
Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But delights on the Law of the Lord.
Meditates on it day and night.
Here is the verse from Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither; ( Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV)
Note 2) Who places gladness in our heart?
The Lord places gladness in our heart. At the very last line of this note you can read the specific verse from Psalms which mentions that it is the Lord who places gladness in our heart.
You may think, you may say, I have gladness some days, not all days.
Remember. The Lord does not change.
He did so in the past, and will do it today and in the future.
The Lord never changes. He’s the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
For I am the Lord, I do not change.(Malachi 3:6a NKJV)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 NKJV)
But it is for us to choose whom we hear or receive.
We can choose to receive either the gladness the Lord has given us.
Or we can choose to give greater focus to the anxiety, worry and sadness the world or our life circumstances gives us. So what is our choice? To receive from the all almighty, who reigns over the universe or to give attention to some puny and lesser insignificant circumstances?
The gladness we have is due to very strong reasons which do not change. These are eternal truths. God never leaves us or forsakes us. He’s always with us. Isn’t that a GREAT reason to rejoice?
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10 NKJV)
There are many more precious reasons to be glad. This is one very very important thing. The others are for you to discover as you read.
Here is the powerful verse which reiterates that God places gladness in our heart.
You have put gladness in my heart,
More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. ( Psalm 4:7 NKJV)
