Yes most certainly, you are made in HIS image. To get a full understanding of this truth, let us go through the stages of understanding, which will lead us to this conclusion.
God’s love
God loves mankind much. HIS love for you and me is beyond comprehension. HE loved us even when we were sinners & unrighteous. HIS love for us is so great that HE offered HIS son Jesus as a sacrifice for mankind. The scripture reference we have is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Creation of Man
We have great scripture that references God’s creation of man. When God created man, God intended to make man in the likeness of God & in His image. In the Holy Bible, within the Book of Genesis verse 26, in Chapter 1 (Genesis 1: 26) we have it mentioned, “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.””
Going further in Genesis 1 beyond verse 26, we have – Genesis 1: 26 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”” 27 “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” 28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Free will
In creating man, while God could choose to create man without or with free will, God chooses to create man with Free will. And as man renews his mind with the Word of God, man is able to change his thinking. The transformation brought by living & thinking based on the Word transforms man into becoming like Christ Jesus.
Sons of God & co-heirs with Jesus
In the transformation process when you choose to be led by the Spirit of God you become a child of God. Referring to Romans 8:14 “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Hope this makes you realise that you are made in God’s image.
Even in our society, where we have regular families, we see that each child is made in his parents’ image.
To further drive home the point, Paul clearly says that we are co-heirs with Christ. Here are the verses from Romans 8. 16 “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” 17 “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
Trusting that you are fully convinced that you are made in the image & likeness of God, you & I would not want to live a life we used to live, but with perseverance, live a life bringing glory & honour to God. In 2nd Corinthians chapter 3 (verses 17 to 18), Paul adds that – “Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled faces, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
