Maybe your bank account is low today. Yet there is enough reason to value the “now” moment, to treasure this day!
Perhaps your farmland, your workplace, your business, etc., could be going through challenges. Yet you have the privilege to do God’s will today. This decision is only up to you.

1) Why should we value today?
When you do God’s will, you can make your day count.
God has a greater opportunity to transform an ordinary day into a great day for a person who does His will (God’s will).
Yes, when you give greater importance to God’s perspective for today than yours, everything can shift. Not that you try to twist God’s hand. Rather, you give greater importance to God’s will rather than getting overwhelmed by your circumstances.
Greater love for God leads to obedience to God. If you persevere in doing God’s will, everything can change. As you keep doing this continuously, for many days, you will see a change. Change within yourself. Change around you. Change in your life.
When you do God’s will…God’s favour will surround you in greater measure.
As you persevere in doing this continuously, this nature becomes your default.
No force, neither war nor natural calamities, can damage it or devalue it or steal it. Your treasure in heaven grows. It will last for eternity. It can cause a ripple effect of goodness all around you.
2) Why is doing all we can today necessary?
Today is the day we have in our hands, in our influence, to control.
It is totally under your control to shape, to sculpt, to mold. You have the greatest control over it. What you do with today will shape the future. What you do today has an influence on your tomorrow. So treat today with great tenderness and care. Do not squander it. It is no ordinary day. In a few moments, I will give you a few brilliant reasons based on the Bible.
When you do all that you can do today, you can see that the momentum of today favorably affects your tomorrow. Do you remember a relay race? When the previous runner has done well, the next runner is encouraged to do well.
No one can steal the present moment and what you do with it.
3) What are the principles of transforming your today?
The three principles for getting the best from your today. Go through these Bible-based principles, and you will experience your day being fulfilling. Not that troubles or storms do not happen. But even when they happen, you will be in a place of peace, as you Trust in the Prince of peace, Jesus Christ. viz.
a) Rejoicing in the day
The Bible makes it obvious that every day is made by my God. Hence, we need to rejoice and be glad about it as we trust in God, who made that day.
This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
b) Being tender and still to hear from the Lord.
The Lord is loving, kind, and rich in mercy. This doesn’t change with situations and circumstances. So when you get a thought from the Lord, when you are quickened by a word you read, when a specific message preached touches you, yield to it.
“Today [while there is still opportunity] if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your heart, as when they provoked Me [in the rebellion in the desert at Meribah].” (Hebrews 3:15 AMP)
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.(Psalm 95:8,9)
Complaining about your circumstances is not liked by God. As believers in Jesus Christ, we only need to believe that God is with us; He will never leave us or abandon us.
Since God is almighty and all-powerful, all situations and circumstances are relatively insignificant to God’s almighty power. So as an attitude, we exalt God; we do not exalt the problems or circumstances we face.
The Israelites were thirsty in the wilderness as they were going to the promised land. But their thirst became a reason to distrust God. A temporary issue led them to forget how God had brought them out of bondage from Egypt by great signs, wonders, and miracles. The people grumbled. They did not bother to remember God’s goodness towards them in the past. They complained, and God did not like it, as they did not show their trust in God when they faced some difficulty, some adversity.
Whereas if we remain still and recall God’s faithfulness in the past to us as well as our near and dear people, we have enough reason to be grateful to God, to be thankful to God.
We can then choose to ask God what He is seeing in the circumstance we are going through now. We can ask Him what He is wanting us to do. As we wait upon Him, He will lead us and guide us in these.
A grumbling heart is a hardened heart. A heart which complains does not hear from God.
Whereas a tender heart is sensitive, hearing God. A tender heart trusts God and is thankful to God.
When we are busy, we hear less from God. Whereas when we are still, we hear more from God. Remaining still is important to hear from God. We can hear the whispers as well as the nudges from God when we are still and wait upon hearing from Him.
c) Numbering your days
We need to remember that we have only a limited time frame here on earth. We can be healthy; we need not be very old, yet our life can be limited. Many celebrities and famous people have passed away in their youth. It is foolish to be certain that life would continue as it does. Surprises can happen.
So teach us to number our days,
That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
The moment we have this truth in our consideration, we will not go for frivolous fights; we will ignore many matters and forgive many around us. Life becomes lighter, not burdensome. Having this as a reminder is important.
4) Are there any other guidelines to be followed to have a good day?
1) Have mercy and truth be with you always
God has been merciful to us. He forgave our sins. He loved us so very much that He was willing to offer His only Son’s life for us.
Jesus Christ, who knew no sin, died on the cross to obey His heavenly Father, God. Thus, God is a just God who paid the price for our sin. We know the wages of sin are death. Hence, Jesus Christ died on the cross. Justice is truth.
In salvation, mercy and truth come together. Mercy is expressed forgiveness, kindness, flowing from love. Truth comes from faithfulness, dependability, trustworthiness, and justice.
Here are a few verses from the Bible on Mercy and Truth.
Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:3-4)
All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. (Psalm 25:10)
By mercy and truth, iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.(Proverbs 16:6)
We have received abundant mercy beyond measure, and experienced this greatest truth. So we are required to be always merciful and express truth (justice).
2) Reigning your thoughts
Our thoughts often influence our words and actions. As we control our thoughts, making them acceptable to God, we please Him. The verse below guides us on the type of thoughts we allow to continue and the thoughts we reject. We reject thoughts by deciding to stop thinking them and instead switch to thinking acceptable thoughts. Here is the verse.
Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. (Philippians 4:8)
Conclusion
As we earnestly try the above, we strive to please the Lord with how we please Him. As we try living a life of thankfulness, living a life of hope as we trust in Him and His faithfulness and His love, we please Him.
This makes our life a daily triumph in Christ. All because of what the Lord has done for us.
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
