Descriptions of true, truth

Truth is timeless – maintains the status quo independent of time. Thus what is the truth does not change based on situation and circumstances. Truth is eternal in nature – does not change with time.

Whereas what’s true need not continue to be so. What’s true is limited by certain parameters – including time and space. It has a time duration when it’s correct, whereas it can be incorrect later. Even based on the situation and circumstances, what’s true at a particular timeframe can stop being so.

Examples of what’s true vs. the truth

It’s true that a person can be sick now. This can be true on 3rd January. But this can change on 12th For instance, it’s true that today is Tuesday.
But in eight hours the above statement becomes wrong…as it becomes midnight and switches to the new day. January. I hope this example makes what’s true.

You may be feeling hot and sweating during mid-noon, when you are in the desert in Saudi Arabia. But when you step into a hotel in Rhyidha in Saudi Arabia at mid noon, you will not sweat.

Bible verses on the truth

God’s Word, is the truth. It’s absolute. It does not change with time, as God’s Word is eternal. The Bible is God’s Word.

Heaven and earth shall pass away but my word shall not pass away.  (Matthew 24:35) Thus the word of God is eternal – as it does not pass away. You can see the truth about God’s word being independent even to extreme events like the very existence or destruction of the earth.

Jesus Christ is the person of truth. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. ( John 14:6 NKJV).

Jesus Christ is the Word that became flesh. The word of God is truth.  The eternal nature of the Word of God can be seen in the next verse as well. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it.( John 1:1-5 NKJV)

The verse pointing to the word of God becoming flesh is given below.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. ( John 1:14 NKJV)

Why is it important to know the truth?

A person who does not know the truth would be always in a state of confusion seeking one after another counterfeit truths.  In the world we often come across a person who seeks one thing and later seeks another thing in his quest for the truth. So it’s so important to know the truth. People who go behind wealth, fame, and pleasure as the most important matters in life sooner or later discover that none of these are truths.

It’s true that wealth, fame, pleasure etc are important. But they fade away in significance against the truth of Jesus Christ being the way, the truth, and the life.

A person pursuing wealth, fame, and pleasure sooner or later discovers that these are temporary and do not give peace nor does it give joy. Whereas all these give a false sense of security or fulfillment. Incidents and situations come in life when these are certainly proven to be false and counterfeit.

Whereas a person who lives his life accepting Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour over his/her life has an abundance of peace. He/she is free from all shackles – all chains of fallacies – all limiting beliefs. Knowing the truth – sets us in freedom. No more is a person knowing the truth is a slave to any lie.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” ( John 8:31-32 NKJV)

How can one know the truth?

The choice to accept the truth and live a wholesome life is up to us. Many of us know that as we follow the owner’s manual and instructions the equipment we bought will serve us best with no breakdown.

But how many of us make the effort to read the owner’s manual, skim through it or read it. Often without reading the user manual, we are able to use the equipment based on common sense.

Only when we encounter problems do we go to the user manual or google the issue or search for videos on youtube to solve the problem.

What do we do when the issues are matters about our life, questions about the purpose of life etc.. Do we remember that we are made in the image and likeness of God? We have this bible verse which mentions so.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. ( Genesis 1:27 NKJV)

So it is  important that we read the Bible (owner’s manual) and know what God has intended for our lives. Our creator knows us best – He knows what’s good for a fruitful life possible through a strong relationship with God and fellow human beings ( who are also made in the image of God).

Daily reading the Bible, following the do’s and don’t’s – the laws and commands matter.
Daily reading the Bible, knowing the keys to a fruitful life.
Daily reading the Bible and knowing the promises contained in the Bible for our life.
Daily reading the Bible so that the mind is renewed by the truths that define our identity we have in Christ Jesus.

Change your life empowered by the truth

Knowing the truth and practicing the truth is important.
We practice the truth by choosing to remember the truth.
Consequently, we should ignore every lie and everything false.

With ongoing fellowship with Jesus – coming from a lifestyle of daily Bible reading and remembering any specific key verse throughout the day – we can be on the right path of living life with the truth.

The lies and pains and sorrows of life neither define you or limit you.
Instead what the Bible says about you alone influences your thoughts, words and actions. And the truths of the Bible as you speak them and remind yourself about them, start redefining your situation and circumstances.

When Goliath was proclaiming the lies, challenging all of Israel, it took a youth – not having much age and size of the mightier Israelites – but certainly knowing the truth about the God of Israel – all because David had a strong and good relationship with God. A relationship with God – which is the basis of the right identity. An identity that liberated Israel from the clutch of the lies of the enemy – Goliath. An instance of knowing the truth – which brought in victory and freedom.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.( 1 Samuel 17:45-47 NKJV)

Very many similar instances of the above are available in the Bible. Here is one such situation: how God prepares to commission Joshua after Moses has passed away. We can see God equips Joshua with all the strength required to accomplish his life purpose of giving as an inheritance the Land which the Lord promised Israelites generations ago.

God gave Joshua the keys to be and stay prosperous, and have good success. All these are possible because the Lord assured that wherever Joshua went, the Lord would be with Joshua – a relationship and bounding between both Joshua and God.

Joshua had to observe the laws and commandments of God which Moseses had conveyed to him.

Joshua had to read the Book of Law – so that he read it and spoke it – like declaring it – so that the Bible remained in his mouth – thus did not depart from Joshua’s mouth. Read the verses below with great attention.

Joshua was also instructed to meditate on the law and observe doing so. All this would make him prosperous and successful in his life mission.

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Keeping an ongoing relationship with God and having fellowship with God is key – thus as Joshua did – practicing the truth is the powerful step which we need to take in accomplishing our life’s purpose.

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. ( 1 John 1:5-7 NKJV)

We know that it’s true that Gideon was from among the smallest tribe. This is the way Gideon perceived himself – in his conversation to the angel who had appeared to him. What Gideon told himself was true. “Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” (Judges 6:15b NKJV)

Gideon was hiding from the enemy. Yet we know the truth about Gideon was what God called him to be – the God-given identity. Gideon made a choice. He chose the truth. The truth of his God-given identity. That made him victorious in the fight against the Midianites.

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”  ( Judges 6:12 NKJV)

Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”  ( Judges 6:14 NKJV)
