Meditating the Word of God – 2nd November
Today’s verse is from Psalm 27:4. The passage is given from a few versions of the Bible.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (version NIV)
Here’s the one thing I crave from Yahweh, the one thing I seek above all else: I want to live with him every moment in his house, beholding the marvelous beauty of Yahweh, filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace. I want to contemplate in his temple. (version TPT)
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. (version KJV)
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple. (version AMPC)
Irrespective of having palaces to stay, King David desired to be in the house of the Lord. Neither the comfort of home nor the battlegrounds where his victories were moulded were any place where King David desired to be.
His priorities were straight.
The House of God, where worshippers gather.
The House of God, where worship arises like sweet incense.
The House of God, where the presence of God comes down.
The House of God, where the word of God is read out and expounded.
The House of God, where signs, wonders and signs and healing take place.
The House of God, where situations change beyond imagination, breakthroughs come.
The House of God, where broken hearts get healed.
The House of God, orphans experience the love of their Heavenly father.
The House of God, where the barren woman is no longer barren.
The House of God, where the weary and old become strong and young.
The House of God, where Peace and Joy abound.
The House of God, where revelations and prophecies are received.
The House of God, where we behold the beauty of the Lord.
The House of the Lord, where we receive answers for every situation.
The first time the term House of the Lord was used was in Genesis 28:16-19 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
Earlier in this chapter, we see a ladder from this place connecting to heaven and the Lord standing above it and angels of God ascending and descending. The Lord in this passage speaks to Jacob, that He was the Lord of Abraham and Isaac, his fathers – a very personal God. That He would give the land to Jacob and his descendents – a promise, that He(God) would be with Jacob everywhere he (Jacob) went – protection. All these things can be ours in the House of God. Gods promises for us, God’s provision and protection for us.
Similarly, all these hold true for each one of us, in the House of God.
Why should we number our days?
