If you desire to hear the voice of God, you can.
Here are a few simple steps.
- Desire to hear from HIM.
Nurture this desire. Remember to desire this daily. Desire to hear HIM in the morning after you wake up. Desire to hear him before you go to sleep. You can choose to desire to hear him when you travel daily as well.
- Choose a silent place to hear HIM.
In a loud place, it’s difficult to hear conversations. Choose a place that is still. Even a mind busy with a lot of thoughts or anxieties is like a loud room. Being in a still place matters much. Commonsense? Yes, all these are practical & simple ways. I have arrived at these points & found it works. I have asked people who hear HIM & are guided by HIM, they agree to these points.
- Know that HE speaks & you can hear HIM. This is the truth.
Keep remembering this. After years & perhaps decades of ignoring to listen to HIM,
it’s possible some of you have become deaf to HIS voice. Ask for forgiveness. (John 10:27) NKJV – “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me”. Whereas if you believe a lie that you would not hear HIM, that will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
- Read the Holy Bible daily.Reading daily is the most important habit you develop.
Once you are reading daily for 6 weeks or more, work at reading 3 chapters daily, then more.
These days I read a minimum of 10 chapters daily. Why should you read the Bible? When you need to communicate with a friend who knows only French you need to know the language. The Holy Bible is the Word of God. It is the Living Word of God. Reading & Knowing the Word of God, helps you hear HIM. Else you may hear a voice & consider it God’s, whereas it can be some other voice. Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever”. So what you hear from HIM is consistent with what you have already read in the HOLY Bible.
- Stop doing things displeasing to God
Imagine having a friend who always does matters which displeases you, angers you. This could be a way in which the friend is telling you to leave him alone. You may perhaps consider stopping to interact with him. In the case of the Lord, He’s the same & his love to you is always a constant. Never loving you less. But if you continue to displease God, you may become less sensitive in hearing Him.
- Ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to hear Him
Jesus clearly gave us the Holy Spirit as a Comforter & Counselor. What more do you require?
(John 14:26) – “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” Remembering this verse & asking for what this verse is a sweet prayer you offer to hear Him.
